Long-term Tottenham target Leandro Damiao could be on his way to Santos, according to sources in Brazil.

Spurs' interest in the Brazilian forward dates back to Harry Redknapp's spell in charge at White Hart Lane, when they failed to strike an agreement with Internacional despite making several bids.

The club seemed to give up on the pursuit this summer when Andre Villas-Boas eventually splashed out £26millin on Spain international Roberto Soldado, but it is believed the manager is still keen on signing another frontman in the January transfer window.

However, Villas-Boas may have to shelve any plans to revive interest in Damiao as the 24-year-old could be on his way across Brazil to Santos in the near future.

Globo Esporte claim Santos, who are still looking for a replacement for homegrown superstar Neymar following his move to Barcelona, have reached an agreement with the player over a three-year deal after negotiations last weekend.

And incredibly, Internacional are reportedly demanding a fee of just £2.5million and a player in exchange for the striker who was previously valued at around £20million.

Brazil international midfielder Arouca has been touted as a potential makeweight to head in the opposite direction.
