Manchester United defender target Eliaquim Mangala failed to impress in-front of David Moyes last night (Wednesday).

The Red Devils chief travelled to Spain to watch Atletico Madrid against FC Porto in the Champions League, with the hosts claiming a 2-0 victory to cement their place at the top of the Group G table.

Midfielder Koke is reported to be the main reason for the Scotsman's trip to the Spanish capital, and the youngster impressed on another great European night for Diego Simeone's side.

Mangala, a long-term Manchester United target, didn't enjoy such a good night however, with The Daily Mirror reporting that he struggled at the Vicente Calderon Stadium.

The centre back, who has a £40million minimum fee release clause in his contract, was tipped to be preparing for a move to England back in October after changing agent.

However, TalkSPORT reported earlier this month that Porto were ready to offer the 22-year-old a new deal to prevent him leaving for the Premier League.

If Manchester United were interested in signing the player, that could have changed last night after a poor showing in Europe's premier club competition.

Moyes has a number of central defensive options at his disposal, with Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling all fighting for opportunities at Old Trafford.

Mangala would have added even more competition for the Red Devils, but it remains to be seen if Sir Alex Ferguson's successor has been put off for good.
