Hellas Verona have vowed to keep hold of Chelsea and Liverpool target Jorginho this January,

The Brazilian playmaker has enjoyed a fantastic start to the season in Serie A, scoring seven goals in 15 appearances.

His performances have alerted a host of top clubs at home and abroad, with Serie A rivals Fiorentina reportedly heading the queue for his services.

Liverpool are looking to bolster their midfield options in January, especially after captain Steven Gerrard was ruled out for six weeks with a hamstring injury.

The Reds are also sweating on the fitness of Jordan Henderson, who was injured after a nasty challenge by Kevin Nolan during their 4-1 win over West Ham last weekend.

Brendan Rodgers reportedly came close to signing the 21-year-old in the summer, while London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea have also been monitoring his progress.

However Fiorentina are understood to be the club in pole position to secure the deal, and have been busy preparing a January offer.

Verona remain adamant however that their prized asset will not be sold in January, and are set to resist any offers until the summer at the earliest.
