With his nine goals in the group stage, the Real Madrid forward added another record to those that he has already broken in this competition

In Copenhagen, Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player in the history of the Champions League to scores nine goals in a group stage. The forward has reached this figure in the five matches that he has played in this season’s competition. Last year he became the top away goal-scorer in a single Champions League season and his role as a record breaker in the competition continued with this new feat.

The Real Madrid forward started the competition with a hat-trick in the Ali Sami Yen, before going on to score braces against Copenhagen and Juventus. Away from the Bernabéu, he scored when the Whites visited the Juventus Stadium and when the played in Parken Stadium in Copenhagen. That took him to his total of nine goals and makes him the first player in the history of the Champions League to reach the figure in a group stage.

This record will sit alongside the two that he broke last season. His eight goals away from home made him the player with most away goals in the same Champions League season. In addition, Cristiano Ronaldo was the first player in Real Madrid’s history to score 12 goals in a single Champions League campaign. The Portuguese has scored 44 goals in his 45 Champions League appearances for Real Madrid.
