Gaizka Mendieta says it would be a big surprise if Andres Iniesta decided to quit Barcelona for Manchester United.
The Red Devils have been tipped to launch a sensational swoop for the Spanish superstar, amid rumours he is getting increasingly fed up with the state of negotiations over a new contract and is unhappy with the methods of Barca manager Tata Martino.
But Mendieta, who spent a year on loan at the Nou Camp during his glittering playing career, told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast a move to Manchester is unlikely to be on the cards.
“You can never say never, but I think Iniesta is happy to be at Barcelona,” he said, speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.
"Tata Martino is imposing this rotation, which I think we all agree they all needed, but players never like. I'm sure there will be a point where Iniesta and Barcelona will reach agreement.
"The fact they say there is no rush in the negotiations means they seem happy to wait and see what happens.
"Barcelona is going great. Maybe the style of football is not what it was like years ago, but they are still winning.”
