Manchester United will fight it out with Chelsea and Manchester City to land highly rated AS Roma defender Marquinhos this summer.

The Brazil starlet’s agent confirmed his client had received offers from the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona, though the Daily Star claims both Chelsea and Manchester City also retain an interest in Marquinhos.

“Roma has told us that there is the possibility of a sale, and we'll respect the decision they take,” Roberto Calenda is quoted as saying.

"There are offers from PSG, Barcelona and Manchester United, and it's possible the club accepts one of those."

Marquinhos has been wining rave reviews since he made the switch from Corinthians to Serie A last season and it appears as though his emergence has coincided with many of Europe’s top clubs looking for a new central defender.

Manchester United are reportedly concerned about the long-term options in central defence with Nemanja Vidic and Chris Smalling both being sidelined for long periods over the past two seasons.

Chelsea may be searching for a successor to captain John terry at the heart of their defence and Marquinhos’ performances at such a tender age make him an attractive prospect.

Meanwhile, Manchester City have released Kolo Toure, which has left a gap in the central defensive unit
