Everton manager Roberto Martinez has issued another hands-off warning to Manchester United as speculation continues to link the Premier League champions with Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines.
David Moyes has already had a £12million bid for Baines turned down by his old club, while it has been reported this week that he is ready to test the Toffees resolve with a big offer for midfielder Fellaini.
Martinez, who saw his new side beat Accrington Stanley 4-1 in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday night, accepts that these stories are unlikely to go away until the transfer window closes but insists the club have no intention of letting their best players leave.
This is the moment of having speculation, having talks and clubs looking around. I see it as a real compliment – you don’t get that if you don’t perform well,’ he said.
‘We are Everton and we want to keep our best performers and we have got our own aims and that is very clear.
‘We are not losing any sleep over that [speculation]. We are really focused and trying to work as well as we can as a group, making sure that every day counts towards where we want to get.’
