Christian Benteke wants Tottenham to rush through his transfer to White Hart Lane so he doesn't have to return to training with Aston Villa, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Belgian was a hit for the Villains last season, scoring 19 times in the Premier League to help Paul Lambert's side avoid the drop.

The 22-year-old handed in a transfer request last week, with Tottenham said to leading the race for his signature - although Arsenal and Chelsea have also been touted as potential suitors.

Tottenham are short of striker options and are believed to be keen on landing Benteke and will reportedly launch a bid this week - however Villa's £25 million price tag could prove to be a major obstacle in any deal.

Benteke, who has three years left on his deal at Villa Park, is due back in training on Thursday but according to the Mirror the former Genk man wants Spurs to get the deal done as soon as possible so he does't have to face his current employers.

The paper adds that both player and his agent are confident that a fee can be agreed between the two clubs.

Tottenham look to have made Benteke their main striker target for this summer after missing out on Barcelona's David Villa, who opted to join Atletico Madrid, and the north London club are ready to offer him a bumper £60,000-per-week contract.
