Upon hearing the news, Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas was quickly installed one of the front-runners for the vacant job and AS are claiming that the Portuguese coach has a specific clause in his contract that allows him to join Barcelona should the Spaniards pay a set fee of €14m, and there’s nothing Tottenham could do to stop him.
The newspaper suggest that Joan Francesc Ferrer, known as Rubi, will be installed in a caretaker role but it’s unlikely he’ll be given the job on a full-time basis due to his inexperience, and the Catalans are understood to have shortlisted AVB as well as Luis Enrique.
Villas-Boas remained coy when quizzed about reports linking him with the job after Tottenham’s 0-0 draw with Colchester on Friday night, insisting it wasn’t the time to be talking about speculation.
ith arguably the most desirable job in club football up for grabs, it would surely be a tempting prospect for Villas-Boas if the Spaniards come calling and if talk of a clause in his contract are accurate, it seems it’s a job he holds a serious interest in pursuing.
It looks like it could be a nervy few days or weeks ahead for Tottenham and chairman Daniel Levy will be praying he doesn’t receive a call from Barca anytime soon, as another managerial change this summer is one of the last things the club needs.
