Diego Forlan has revealed that he played a part in his countryman opting to move to Anfield in January 2011.
Luis Suarez has not been too far away from the headlines since his move
to Liverpool from Ajax, with the tempestuous Uruguayan striker full of
both controversies and breathtaking performances.
The South
American is adjudged as one of the most dangerous forwards in the
European game and the Anfield club’s talisman – but a former Manchester
United player has revealed that he had a role in him joining the Reds.
International team-mate Diego Forlan has admitted that he spoke to
Suarez about English football and the Merseyside outfit before his
switch from Ajax, and convinced him that a move to Britain was the right
choice.
“I was a Manchester United man,” Forlan told The
Telegraph. “But I told him how, after I’d scored to knock them out of
the Europa League at Anfield [for Atletico Madrid], their fans applauded
me.
“I speak to Luis a lot. He’s loves playing at Liverpool.
He likes the Premier League. And the fans love him because he’s a
strikers’ striker. And he’s better than ever now
