Former Bayern Munich star Mehmet Scholl has warned that Toni Kroos' standoff with the club over a new deal could come back to haunt him.

The 24-year-old revealed recently that talks over a contract renewal have broken down, prompting intense speculation over his future at the Allianz Arena, with Manchester United and Juventus reportedly interested in a possible bid for the player.

And former Germany international Scholl believes that Kroos is playing a risky game which may not pay dividends for his career with the club.

"I think it's not wise for Toni to play poker too much with Bayern," he told TZ.

"That's how it seems at the moment. His current wages are enough for him to have warm food on the table twice a day already!"

Kroos started Bayern's 5-0 DFB-Pokal win over Hamburg on Wednesday after being an unused substitute for their previous two matches, notching two assists.
