Manchester United are ready to put aside the frustration caused by the Wayne Rooney saga and launch a huge bid for Tottenham star Gareth Bale.

The Premier League champions have suffered a difficult week, with Chelsea making an official offer to land their unsettled striker.

However, United are keen to make their own major statement in the transfer market and want Bale to be the first major signing of David Moyes’ reign at Old Trafford.

Chief Executive Ed Woodward returned home from the club’s tour of Australia to deal with some ‘urgent transfer business’ on Wednesday.

United are interested in pushing through a £30m move for Barcelona star Cesc Fabregas, but the Mirror are reporting that the Old Trafford giants are also planning on testing Tottenham’s resolve with a £60m bid for Bale.

Tottenham have been clear on their stance over Bale all summer, insisting their prize asset is not for sale at any price.

But United are desperate to make some major additions to their squad and see the Welsh winger as the prefect candidate to restore some positivity to their summer dealings.
