Chelsea are ready to offer Wayne Rooney a £56million package if he forces through a move from Manchester United this summer.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho has made securing Rooney his number one target, but is refusing to up the opening offer of around £20million made on Wednesday.
United insist the 27-year-old will be staying put, but Chelsea are reportedly ready to offer Rooney a bumper £56million four-year-deal if he forces through a transfer to Stamford Bridge.
Rooney currently takes home around £250,000-a-week at United, but Chelsea are ready to boost that to £270,000-a-week on a contract until 2017.
It means the striker would be handsomely rewarded for leaving United, where he is known to be ‘shocked and angry’ at his treatment by new manager David Moyes.
t’s thought that Moyes still intends to hang on to Rooney, unless Chelsea get closer to their £30million valuation.
Arsenal are also keen on the player, and could offer another option with manager Arsene Wenger admitting the Gunners could also put together an attractive wage package.
‘Rooney is under contract and has two years to go so it’s United who make the decision,’ said Wenger.
‘But we would not have a problem with the wages of Rooney.’
Rooney is believed to be favour a transfer to Chelsea, and is expected to meet with his agent later this week to discuss what happens next.
