David Moyes has targeted Cesc Fabregas and Marouane Fellaini as reinforcements for Manchester United's midfield. An offer has been placed with Barcelona for Fabregas, and while Arsenal hold an option to match any bid the Catalan club accept for their former captain,
the player would be under no obligation to return to them. Fabregas is understood to prefer a move to Old Trafford should Barcelona – who are trying to fund the purchase of a new central defender - alter their public position and elect to sell the 26-year-old.
Though Fellaini has been aware of Arsene Wenger's interest in signing him for months, Arsenal have so far failed to trigger a soon-to-expire £23.5million release clause in his Everton contract. The London club are also reluctant to match the wages the Belgian has been offered elsewhere, notably by Zenit St Petersburg.
