Liverpool Handed Major Fitness Boost Ahead of Tottenham Fixture
Liverpool have been handed a fitness major boost after Brendan Rodgers admitted that injured Jordan Henderson could be in contention for a place in the starting lineup against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
The former Sunderland midfielder suffered a reaction to Kevin Nolan's challenge during the league tie against West Ham United. Steven Gerrard also picked up a hamstring injury during the Reds' 4-1 victory over the Hammers.
It was earlier reported that Gerarrd would be out of action for up to six weeks while Henderson was set to miss the Merseyside club's trip to White Hart Lane. The Northern Irishman also revealed that Henderson has trained ahead of Liverpool's clash against Andre Villas-Boas' side.
"Jordan trained so he's fine. It was just precautionary the last few days. It was a bad challenge that was made on him, but thankfully he's okay. But we'll see how he is tomorrow as well," Rodgers told Liverpool's official website.
Meanwhile, Liverpool manager admitted that Gerrard could be back in next four weeks. He has been an integral member of Liverpool's starting lineup, starting in all 15 league fixtures this season.
The former Swansea manager has now suggested that the Liverpool captain will undergo extensive treatment in order to get him back earlier than expected.
"Steven is, as reported, probably going to be up to about four weeks or so. So he'll go through an extensive treatment programme over the next numbers of weeks and hopefully we can get him back that little bit sooner," the Liverpool manager explained.
"But certainly at this stage, it was a four to six-week injury and we'll see how we look with that," he added.
Liverpool have a tough set of fixtures in December, starting with the Spurs. The Reds then host Cardiff City before making a trip to the Etihad and Stamford Bridge to face Manchester City and Chelsea respectively.
Liverpool are already without the services of their star striker Daniel Sturridge, who is set to be out of action until February. Gerrard is unlikely to feature in the Reds' league games before the start of the New Year while Henderson returning to Spurs game would be a major boost for Rodgers.
