Sir Alex Ferguson believes Juventus manager Antonio Conte is the man to save Manchester United should David Moyes continue to struggle, reports the Italian media.

Sports Witness, citing reports from Italy, claim that the former Manchester United manager and current director has been in contact with his friend Marcelo Lippi about the possibility of hiring Conte.

The Italian manager has experienced relative success during his time in charge at Juventus, winning back to back Serie A titles and are currently strong favourites to scoop a third this term.

It's been enough to convince Ferguson, who is starting to consider replacements for Moyes, in case his compatriot continues to struggle as his successor in the Old Trafford dugout.

Manchester United are currently on their worst run since 2001 after losing three consecutive games and crashing out of the FA Cup third round to Swansea.

In an underwhelming season, the Red Devils have suffered five defeats at home and currently sit 11 points behind leaders Arsenal. More worryingly, United are currently five points away from fourth place - the last Champions League qualifying place.

It seems unlikely that Ferguson would give up hope on Moyes so soon, especially considering that he personally chose him as his successor. But although United knew this transition would be difficult, the prospect of finishing outside the Champions League places is one that worries officials at Old Trafford.
